Do any of you (especially second gen) have fancy engine dress-up kits under your hoods? At some point under my ownership I would like to tidy and tart up my engine bay so its not quite as much of an embarrassment when I open it. I have seen a few kits on-line (in America) and just wondering if any of you have any pictures of them fitted? |

I did - i bought from ebay uk a few years ago - came with all of the hose overlay braid stuff. I ended up taking it off the other week, easier to tell the condition of the hoses and see if there are any cracks / leaks etc. I think on my project build thread there are some engine pics where can you see it, i don't have any pics on me at the moment that i can post. What kind of bits are you looking to clean up? |

Hmm, not sure why but if i look at your project thread I cannot see any of the images I will have to try again at home! Well I was hoping to see some examples as inspiration, including but not limited to rocker covers, timing belt cover, air filter, oil filter, HT leads, and frankly anything else that is available! Hence looking to see some examples To be fair its not terrible under there, and the air filter and new timing chain cover are both chromed already. |

I choose aluminium over chrome, all the dress up kits I´ve seen rust, unless you´re prepared to polish...polish...polish. |

Aluminium sounds the way to go then! |

Strange that the pics wouldn't load, maybe it's a mobile device related thing? I have a chrome alternator and bracketry, chrome air filter and an aluminium spark plug lead rail to tidy things up. I have a chrome water pump neck but will be changing that out to stock at some point, after seeing how they corrode on the inside. As 3rdgenMalc says, the chrome stuff does corrode after a couple of years so any future stuff i get will be plain / black / silver as it will also be easy to fix if any rust sets in. I have a chrome radiator filler panel if you like it will fit yours which is pretty clean as it's lived in the house for about 5 years. I should be able to find some pics of the engine bay when i get home and i'll post them up this evening |

They are typically full of crap chrome that rusts as soon as it gets hot/wet and a load of tat. Personally I'd rather see an engine bay that looks clean and stock and spend the money on performance enhancements If you need shiny bits, buy good quality aluminium parts. They are still very high maintenance if you want to keep them shiny though. |

Bah! Well I can always fit them, take a load of nice photos they slowly let them rot..... I guess there will be a whole heap of other things I need to get sorted first - frankly I just want my bloody car back!! Nearly two months now since i bought it and not been able to drive it |

Most of those kits originate in Korea or China... |
