Hey All, Recently came into ownership of a 76' with some nice 70'-73' era features. Ideally I would like someone to give it the mechanical onceover... I have heard good things about some restoration guys in mid-Wales called 'King of Cool Ltd'. Anyone heard of 'em? Car can't be driven as it has no MoT, tax or insurance. Looked at recovery firms but it is a good 180 mile trek up there from Berkshire, where I am. They want vast sums of monies unfortunately So I was wondering if anyone on here has a trailer and is heading that way or knows of someone with a trailer? I'm happy to pay a good rate, I just think the £425+ that is being asked is a little steep Thanks All. |

Hi Jefferson. I hired a trailer once to get a crashed car to a fixer.. Was from a company in Welwyn I think., can't remember the price but seemed cheap enough and my neighbour lent me his Landrover as a tow car. |

Hi Jefferson, Do a quick google search for something along the lines of flat bet / low loader rental. I found a company near me (i'm South Bucks) that would let me hire a flat bed (recovery vehicle basically) for about £80 or so, for 24 hours. Just like renting a car from Hertz etc. so you are in full control for 24 hours. They supply the tie down straps and show you how to use them correctly. If i can remember the name of the company i'll let you know but i can't remember at the moment. When they ask you what car it's for, just tell them Ford Mondeo, as they think American car = boat, so won't fit Let us know how you get on! Cheers, Ray |

Thanks for your replies Stu, Ray. I feel quite honoured to have the two big wigs share some advice Unfortunately, I've researched trailers and towing extensively but to no avail. Due to my age, I cannot hire a flatbed etc itself. Everyone seems to have an age limit of 25 or older. (Understandable I suppose...) I can rent a trailer... but due to again to my age and the year I acquired my licence I cannot tow a 1.75 tonne Camaro on it It seems they changed the licence categories a few years back. Prior to this someone who acquired a standard UK-Manual licence could tow and drive a 7.5 tonne truck! Alas, I can do neither seemingly without further testing. Onwards and upwards lads, onwards and upwards! (P.S - Nice to see someone localish Ray. Your Gen 2 Camaro isn't yellow is it? I've seen one like that around Windsor a few times.) |

Glad to be of help, Stu i'd say is a bigwig as he knows plenty about these cars, i'm still on a long learning path lol. That's a bugger about the license changes, i had no idea they did that I think this is the place i mentioned that i had contacted before, it's local-ish and will allow you hire from the age of 23 (not sure if that covers you?). http://www.transporterhire.co.uk/ ~£100 for the day and discounts for any further days required. They say: Quote: Our 3.5t self drive recovery truck rental rate is just £105 for a satndard single day (£110 from our London location). DISCOUNT on 2 or more days get a quote now.
Hope that helps! Our car transporter hire charge INCLUDES INSURANCE for road risks. If you are over 23 but under 25 however there is an additional insurance charge of £20. The rental INCLUDES 250 miles allowance. If you do more we charge just 12p per extra mile. For instance if you do 300 miles in a day there will be an additional charge of £6.00. The yellow 2nd gen isn't me - it's a guy named Phil, lives around the corner from Windsor so he's usually seen around those parts. He's joined us for a few car meets, has had the car for a looooong time. Mine is still in project status, though it's not far off being done |

Much obliged Ray. I am going to call them tomorrow and plead. Maybe they'll hire a truck out to someone under the age of 23 for a fee? Here's hoping anyway. Oh okay. Is Phil on here? If so, hi Phil Your car has sounded great the few times you've passed me |

No worries Did you have any luck with them? Phil isn't on the forum but i'll tell him you said hi It had a new 350 crate engine in it a few years ago and has 1 5/8 headers on it, does sound very nice! |

Finally got a response from them after offering to pay an additional fee or something similar for being under 23 years old. Unfortunately they were still unable to take my custom as their insurer declined the idea. I'll keep on looking... Thanks Gents! |
