The time has come to renew my recovery and I was wondering if anybody had any reccomendations? I'm looking to cover both my vehicles but the comparison sites seem to have a 16 year cut off date and don't allow me to add an extra vehicle in addition to having weight limits which I think my shogun is over, so I need a 17 year old camaro and a 7 year old 3 ton shogun nationwide recovery, any ideas ?

I had this with my standard AA cover that I'd had for years, then recently they said Camaro was too old, then my van wasn't covered as was commercial. I switched to RAC about 3 years ago who happily covered all household vehicles until last year when they changed the rules and wouldn't cover the van,... again..
So now, I've got 4 vehicles each with separate breakdown cover all on a deal with RAC fleet, who charge a flat rate per vehicle, and cover Europe etc...

GEM motor assist. ~£85 per year. The policy is on the driver not the car I have this for the 87 Trans Am - i will need to check but i believe i will also be covered on the 79 Camaro with the same policy, as i'm the registered owner in both cases.

Had a hell of a time too trying to find breakdown cover. I even explained to the RAC, Greenflag etc that i don't want roadside fixes (sure - if it's a case of running out of fuel then do that) i just want to be towed home. Don't even take it to a garage, just onto a flatbed, back to my home address. They had no answer for that. I think that's kind of dumb - you should be able to take out a policy where it's effectively a tow service. If there are any breakdown / insurance services reading this - come up with a 'tow home' policy. If there are any tow companies reading this - offer a yearly membership. Nice and simple - offer a basic recovery service; 1) out of fuel, it'll get refuelled (charge 50% extra per litre - nice incentive) 2) tow it home. If it's broke, don't try and fix it, just get it to a chosen destination. Done. You have x amount of tows per year, if you reach the limit then you can pay a premium to continue your policy. Shouldn't be too difficult... Isn't that how the whole breakdown thing started? You called up and a flatbed turned up and you paid for the service each time. Then it was offered as an annual service, based on risk (better to take money from someone that may not use the service than not take their money at all). You can call up and get a tow, just would cost you over £100 each time. Bit of a pain if you don't have mobile internet to find them / shop around for local prices when you're on the side of a road in the dark and cold. So why not just offer that service on a yearly plan. Rant over But seriously - should be policies like that out there...

I am struggling , the trouble with a policy that covers the driver is I would need two as the mrs usually uses the mitsi and I use the yank, they also seem to have restrictions on many of them regarding weight and the mitsi is a big fat old bird, I've also noticed that some of them exclude LHD American cars although I can't see any reason why, suppose I'll check my chevy insurance and see if I can get it added through them

Try Adrian Flux - https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/breakdown/ £68 or £54 if insured with them and i believe a second car is 50% extra or something along those lines. Weight up to 2,500kg's (how heavy is the Mitsi?) I would have gone with them, but GEM would cover both my cars for £85ish so worked out cheaper with GEM. There was no faffing when i called up Adrian Flux for a quote - the guy just said are you insured with us, i said yes, he said ok then it's £54. GEM i bought online, only took about 5 minutes to fill out the form and then got sent paperwork within a few days. @AdrianFlux @Gem motor assist - feel free to send some of your advertising budget this way
How bizarre. That's about as relevant as booking a flight ticket and being asked who your favourite character from Friends was, with the price changing depending on your choice

I use Green Flag - covers my 3 cars regardless of whether myself or my wife are driving.

But no car older than 14 years so far.

The shogun weighs in at 3.02 tonnes , a lot of policies only cover up to 1500kg I'll try flux and see if they can help, I think I'm insured with them on the chevy anyway

There's the German breakdown ADAC that provides UK cover and just uses agents or contracters like AA do anyway, supposed to be good but never looked into it..

Twisted Sanity - most companies do joint cover for spouses etc...

Hmmmm we are with the RAC and it is covers us as drivers and not the car(s). When my 88 Fiero's caliper collapsed on me whilst driving down a dual carriageway - we called them out and there wasn't any questions about the year of the car - they just towed it home on a flatbed!

Brittania rescue.....excellent service and have confirmed to me on several occasions that a 2nd Gen is no problem,they even said OK when I was running 68 Fury.

They've recovered my Mondy n Caravan,one daughters Herald nthe other daughters Chevette when I was out with it.

Well worth a call as these are the guys that the AA n RAC turn to when they can't cope.
