Whilst there's a whole debate over the confederate flag which is maybe something to leave to the side for now... the main thing i wanted to ask is what do people here think about Dukes of Hazards re runs being cancelled due to the flag being on the star car and related things like toys etc having the flag removed from them?

I think it's a bit nuts. First off, I'm all about equality so i'm not pro the flag but at the same time i'm not signing a petition to get rid of it, i'm Switzerland on the whole flag debate. So with that said...

The DoH Charger is orange, with welded doors and a conf. flag on the roof. That's how you recognise it. If you bought a DoH charger 1:18 model, would that class you as a racist and supporter of the flag and what it stands for? You'd hope not. If we're editing history, should we also edit scenes from Smokey and the Bandit as i think that had conf. flag in it in some shots, maybe ban the film from being sold anymore and shown on tv? Should i give up my dvd's of Smokey and the Bandit so that they can provide me with a PC version? Apple even went as far as deleting a game from its iTunes shop as it was a historical civil war game and obviously the flag was used in it. If we're PC'ing history, should we start with other stuff too, like stopping all future WW films, documentaries, games etc. Lots of flags, beliefs, many sided coins happening there. Maybe we should edit Indiana Jones films as they have lots of Nazi mentions, SS costumes, Nazi flags etc. That's probably the most known flag for bad times, but there's plenty of games, films etc. out there and i'm sure there will be more in the future.

I'm not a fan of changing history to suit a 'perfect view' of the world. Bad stuff happened and is happening all over the place in all forms, but by incorrectly documenting it, aren't we stopping ourselves from learning from history (and also biasing it towards the ones who write history)? Doesn't history then become a lie, if we pick and choose what we like and don't like about it? Sure, we can change our future ways with things and we should, otherwise we're not learning from our past, but rewriting history seems like a step too far.

Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").

This will make models of the General Lee with the flag on the roof collectors items, and very expensive.
When I was in Texas, I showed my brother-in-law pics of UK car shows, and he was surprised to see Confederate flags in them.
I explained that American car owners in the UK were basically a bunch of rebels, and that was why.
I get so sick of PC-ness. Our ancestors fought for our freedom of speech in this country and in the US, so what the f#ck happened to it?

I don't have a flagpole, but the next time I see a tee shirt with the flag on, I will buy it, and....shock, horror,..... wear it in public.
And it has nothing to do with racism.

The Confederate flag is a historic flag, just like the English Cross of St George flag and just because a few people with extreme views use it has to be banned !
Some Idiots just want to be "offended" by almost anything these days .
If you don't like it don't fly it and just get on with your life and STFU
PC crybabies are a curse on all the modern world .
Rant over
The same people who don't like the flag are also the ones who don't like our non PC cars, nuff said .

Perhaps my wife, who is Cherokee, should ask for the stars and stripes to be removed because it reminds her and the many other tribes of the genocide at the hands of the Europeans who invaded their lands.

Instead of being offended by the past we should keep it as a reminder of the atrocities that were committed and a warning of what could happen again if we don't keep an eye on things, ( I've had a few beers but it makes sense to me)

I think the difference between the swastika and the Confederate flag is seen by 'some' southerners' nowadays as a symbol of their heritage...whereas the swastika (despite originating from various Indian continent religions) it's only used now as a symbol of Nazi sympathisers..

I guess a few people could see it as offensive, as it could be seen as representing slavery, and other dark sides of US history, but it's like many things as you say, that were deemed acceptable and OK 'back in the day'.. but would be regarded as inappropriate now, but perhaps explaining what it represents to the 'yoof' would be more worthwhile than banning .... Can't re-write history though, and banning certain toys and TV show re-runs it would be pointless..

In America so called Nazis can parade and use the swastika, due to freedom of speech.
To eliminate something from our present day because of it's historical implications is PC madness
and those who wish it are in historical denial.
