Will be good if the Gov. finally realize that if the UK is serious about being a 1st division country we need a modern road system fit for the 21st century not the age of the horse and cart . Some good changes on tax and inheritance but as they say The Devil is in the detail... |

Damn straight. Our roads are sh*t. And we should have the best roads as we have one of the most stable climates. We don't get -30c winters and 40c summers. When my Dutch friends visited once they asked if we pay road tax, as the roads didn't show for it. The roads i drive on every day are literally broken. It's a gamble between do i avoid that pothole and hit the car on the other side, or hit the pot hole and avoid the car. Hitting the pot holes wins always. I hate how much the trans am rattles mostly the whole way. The only good part is on the motorway but even that has potholes, just a bit easier to avoid. On the normal roads, I literally swerve onto the otherside of the road and weave on both sides as it's torn up so badly so try to avoid the holes. Part of my conspiracy side thinks that they are doing that on purpose to get more money out of our pockets... in way of replacement tyres, replacement suspension, and ideally for them, cars worn down from being over rattled to the point that the owners trade up for new cars, giving a nice chunk of VAT to the govt. , plus taking out loans, paying interest on those etc. Conspiracy / rant over

Every penny from VED wil be spent on roads !!!!!. What about the other billions of pounds generated for the government from motoring related income, mainly fuel taxes, VAT, vehicle purchase taxes, company car tax, and other road usage taxes... According to Wikiwhatsit, motorists contribute 7% of the entire UK tax income. |

Certainly doesn't go on the roads. Pays for politicians homes, private education for their kids, starting wars in other countries. The usual responsible ways of spending someone else's money.

Same problem here. Collect a fortune on road related taxes and spend them on everything except the roads. Then when the roads start falling apart they mutter about new or increased taxes to pay for it!!!. I know it's rural where I live but most of the roads look like the air force uses them for bombing practice. |

I know some of the cities were always bad but many of the rural areas really kept things to a much higher standard . What area are you based in ? |
