Jolly good work on the gauges. ..

Is is tough trying to balance work and study.. I spent a year doing a full time college course and trying to work full time a few years back. . Keep it up guv
Well as the title suggests I'm one of those guys who thought 'that's a good idea' when my company offered to pay for me to do my Masters part-time.

It all made sense two and a bit years ago, 4 weeks worth of jollies to Manchester, hotel, travel, expenses and course fees paid, all I needed to do was turn up and do my bit. The modules were ok, 4 in the first year, 4 in the second year, each with an in module test, assignment after the module and an exam.

This third year however is the killer, it's the final year and we have to do our dissertation. The content is fine it's just finding the time at work to squeeze in an hour or two, or committing to do it of an evening/weekend outside of work. Worse still when there are plenty of distractions! It's really hard to maintain any sort of momentum.

I'm almost there though, I'm about two thirds done and my mentor seems happy with my work. I swear after this though, that's it, no more education for me!

Anyone else doing/done something similar?

What is your masters in?

You'll make it through if you've come this far, should be done around September?

In the lead up to starting my masters, i spent the summer doing a full time job 9-5 Mon - Fri, worked a 2nd job 3 evenings a week (5:30 - 8:30) and worked Saturdays in the 2nd job 9 - 6. In my lunch hours and in the evenings after work i spent the time not switching off and resting, but studying my way through about 6 or so books. Being dyslexic, it takes that little bit longer to read :/ I worked every 2nd Sunday 10-4 and on the off Sunday would spend time with the then GF.

When i got to starting the course, i kept just the Saturday job. The GF then thought i was no longer a good addition to her life. I also ran a music label with a friend and on Sundays we worked in the studio and dealt with the general running of it here and there throughout the week.

I didn't learn my lesson as after finishing (great feeling, you'll enjoy it!) i worked freelance for a bit and when i got a 9-5, i kept doing freelance stuff on the side, so that was weekends and evenings being kept busy. Then i got the Camaro, whilst doing the 9-5 and the freelance stuff. Then i started looking after this site as an addition to all that. I managed to squeeze in the odd GF here and there (pun maybe intended) but nothing that lasted too long (pun not intended). Nothing has changed yet :/ I should be done with the last project in a few weeks, same with the Camaro, so it's going to be quite emotional as i will for the first time in years, be out of zombie mode and finishing work for the day won't mean starting on the next job. I'm not allowing myself to take anymore projects for a while, need to enjoy life a bit!

It's mad what we do and i'm sure there will be even more mental stories to be posted. Don't know how people with wife and kids do all that extra stuff. Evilzee is he pops on, has some quite good stories.
