So the time has come to sort out my six speed as the noises are getting worse and more frequent and I fear avoiding the issue any longer will work out to be very expensive for me as these units seem to run at £2500, I have a friend who is confident he can do the job for me and rock auto are out of stock of the rebuild kit, summit and Jegs don't sell them and I was wondering if anyone knows of somewhere other than America I could source a rebuild kit from? So far I can find one for $147 plus $83 shipping then the usual debacle that is import duty and vat ........ There must be somewhere in the UK that supply them, I know the boxes are used in vipers and Aston martins as well as F body's , any help or suggestions welcomed

We believe the VXR's and Monaros used them too so you could try Vauxhall.

They deal with American transmissions - they advertise in magazines such as Classic American ;)

I think they're probably great with autos, but I don't think they know diddlysquat about manuals from my experience. :(

So after a phone call to monkfish performance who have plenty of experience of these box's it appears that the noise I have had for ages is called "gear chatter" and is a common feature on t56 gearboxes , it even features on some new ones! It's when the engine is under load at low rpm whatever gear it's in and the best way I can describe it is similar to air being released from a car tyre but I bit more "rattley" , I have read about this on viper forums before but it's quite horrendous and sounds like it's broken. Fitting a comp clutch can make the noise worse as its lighter and doesn't have the dampening effect of the heavier standard one.
When we fitted the new clutch a few months back the release bearing had a small Nick in it and rattles a little like its on its way out until I put the clutch in so I am hoping that this new noise is somehow related to the release bearing as I can't remember if I played with the clutch after I heard it, I had the clutch depressed as I had just stopped and gone into neutral and pulled the gearstick into first and second a few times to try and clear it which didn't seem to make any difference but it ceased on its own after about 15 secs, any thoughts of comments welcome as I'm unsure if I should keep driving it or pay out and have the box dropped?

Yeah its not the quietest of boxes. My whines a little when its warm but from what I can tell from other forums they all do. Does sound like yours is a little bit more noisy than normal though.

Don't know how much he wants but this might be a option?
