As most of you have probably guessed one of my all time favourite Camaros is the '69 Penske/Donohue Sunoco car. I did extensive research into this car & even had contact with the current owner of it, with a view to making mine a replica or clone of that car. After lot of deliberation I decided against it, instead taking the route to make my car, a car that stands or fallson its own merit. How do you feel about people cloning cars such as this, or Yenkos, Bladwin Motions etc is it right or wrong in your eyes? How about cloning lesser value cars like Z/28's, Boss Mustangs, Hemi cars, Superbirds etc?? Is it right to replicate a car so long as it's not passed off as original, or does it water down the value of the real M'coy? Cheers.........Nige |

I think its natural to want to replicate the best. We do it in all walks of our lives, not just car building. People aspire to be like others, its natural. Look at me, I've had a Red Gran Torino with a white stripe, a black transam with a red light in his nose and funny dashboard. Its just the same as making a Yenko clone. It only matters that you're honset when you come to sell it! If someone were fooled into buying a Yenko that was a base model replica then that sucks! But what you do with your car is your business. I think that replicas can sometimes raise awareness of rare cars that some may not have ever seen or heard of too. Long live the clones, as long as your honest! |

I agree, nothing wrong with clones as long as your honest. Only a lucky few can afford the high prices these rare cars command now so if you like the look why not copy. Cheers.............Tim |

I guess that the problem is that there are unscrupulous people out there that will try & pass of a car that isn't the genuine thing. At what point does the car not become the real thing? If a genuine car is totally restored from a bare shell upwards, with aftermarket parts fitted is it still the genuine thing or not as a lot of the parts that it came with from the factory are no longer on the car. Does it seem right that people stencil on numbers etc on the firewall & suspension 'cos it would have been there from the factory? The truth is that someone who NEVER worked at the factory put those on during the restoration. How far does it have to go to be the "real deal"? Cheers.......Nige |

Nothing wrong with a nice clone, I personally couldn't care less about all the 'originality & numbers matching' stuff that people seem to get so excited about. I just like the styling & the power delivery and sound of a big v8 yankee motor, if you want to modify or make a clone of your car - go ahead, it's yours. |
