Not sure if anyone has seen it yet, last night one of the drivers (Big Chief) posted on social media a letter he got from the NHRA saying that his NHRA license as well as others on the show, would be revoked if they kept being on the show. It's kicked up quite a stir, have a look at the NHRA facebook page and look at user posts, people aren't holding back on how they feel. I wonder if it's as much of a staged thing, as the show is (to discourage people from setting their own home made version). Don't get me wrong, i enjoy watching the show (apart from the editor who decides the camera angle should cut every 0.3 seconds). It is staged and scripted (much like every other reality show), though the cars and racing part is real, you do question how much of it is actually illegal street racing (0% i'm sure) as it's more so closed off streets, with the impression that it's illegal (ask the local PD to pop by and pretend to be angry at someone). Not sure if the NHRA know it's staged and are concerned about people deciding to start their own local illegal racing, or if the NHRA are seeing their viewer numbers dropping whilst Street Outlaws viewer numbers increase, or they genuinly don't know that it's staged and believe that what you see in screen is public street racing. Or maybe a publicity stunt for one / both parties. Who knows. Whichever the case may be, it will be interesting to see the outcome and to read all the comments on the NHRA and StreetOutlaws FB page. |

Just a publicity stunt I think, I can't stand the programme personally, they have some awesome looking cars but are too pussy to ever post a 1/4 mile time for fear of ridicule which would follow in huge amounts shortly afterwards, discovery couldn't be a part of any illegal activity and it is all done on closed off roads and scripted as you suggest in your post, at least with the gas monkey garage and counts customs there is plenty of variety and customising going on even though they are scripted. I love car porn as much as the next man but loud mouthed yanks boasting they have the fastest cars ever and not having the wedding tackle to back it up with figures isn't my bag at all, send Redvictor over there to show them all what a real streetcar is capable of I say |

Ye i noticed that too, they let slip on the last episode that one of the cars was running 1,200hp without NOS but they still don't talk about the times. Also noticed that they have an advantage in Oklahoma as the MOT or whatever the equivalent is, is very different between states and they have quite relaxed regulations i.e smog. In other words a street legal car in OK maybe not be street legal in say Idaho. My friend was working in L.A and had a Chevy HHR new, from a Cali dealer, completely factory and drove to a work conference in Nevada and got pulled over for having too dark tinted windows as the state law meant you had to have barely tinted windows. Seems the fuhrer has a few things to say: |

Can't see the clip as iPads don't do flash, 1200hp is useless Unless you can put it down on the Tarmac |

I wish i had the skills and resources, i would much rather be doing the real thing. I'm very good at breaking / taking things apart and a lot less good at making things work. Quote: Eastenders with cars.
Lol yep that sums it up pretty well! There's about 2 minutes of wanted content in the whole 40 minutes of runtime. You actually see more of the cars on their facebook page vs. the entire tv show about them.

I have an idea, I'll let you have all the time You can handle to sit and watch crap on the telly if you'll take my crumbled spine and chronic and acute pain off me for the duration? I'll even give you a few grand on top as a good will gesture if I can have a month where I'm able to work on my own muscle car instead of paying someone else to do it for me? Far too busy working on musclecars and racing to watch other scripted numpties pretending on TV. Eastenders with cars. Cheers, Martin So what do you race then Martin? Track days or strip action? |

Sorry to hear about your health issues there, obviously my comments cannot apply to all people, all the time. I have often thought TV must be a godsend for those in a situation where they are housebound/bedbound or otherwise incapacitated, especially if they were an active person prior to the health issues stopping play. I do neither of your suggested activities, I race. Trackdays are not racing and 'strip action' is not really either in my book. Before you try to defend drags, I have to tell you that I did Championship drag racing for 12 years so I speak from experience when I say it's poorly run, gives terrible value for money and worst of all, is just plain boring. Racing gives 2x20 minute sessions of flat-out driving (1 practice, one race) for about £250, with up to 60 other cars at the same time. WE do NOT stop if it rains, or gets dark or the wind blows the wrong way like drag racing does. We go up hills and down, round left and right corners and overtake IN THE CORNERS!!!!! Anyway, I'll stop now, but you get the idea. Racing is a lot more fun than anything else I can do with my car and shows and the like are just not my bag at all. Just in case you might be interested, this is the club I race with: http://www.hscc.org.uk/ Cheers, Martin |
