The history is a bit sketchy but she was never registered in the USA and was brought over here brand new in 1979, fully optioned with air con, electric windows, central locking, criuse control etc. She was used as a daily driver for a few years and then sold to a drag racer. The interior was stripped out and glass fibre trunk lid, doors and front end were fitted along with a Richmond street & strip gearbox, big block power plant with nitrous and other drag racing mods (many of which are still on the car today). With the interior and body panels stored away the car was used only on the strip for about 10 years, when the car was put back on the road a modified 400cu motor was fitted and the car resprayed in the original colour, the engine that is in the car now is a 1971 330hp Z28 engine from carb to pan.

I bought the car 3 years ago much as you see it now, it has an excellent interior and no rust, I would like to put a 383 stroker and automatic box in her but am starting to feel like a change so we may part company this year.

Do you have any pics of the car as a drag racer as I might know it, or did it have a name? What happened to the 400 cu in motor that was in it & is it a manual trans car now?If so, if you decide to sell the manual trans I know someone who might be interested in it, Cheers.....Nige

Nige, I have no pics or a name from her drag racing days I'm afraid, I also have no idea what became of the 400cu motor either, I have got tons of bills and paperwork but there are large gaps in the history I'm afraid.

She does still have the gearbox in her, if I decide to sell her this year I will sell her as she is, but if I go the 383 and auto box route I will be selling the engine, box, clutch & shifter, it's a pretty "bullet proof" set up - Richmond box, Hayes clutch and Hurst shifter.

Welcome to the site :D

Very nice car you have there, hope to see it at the shows

If you go 383 route will you build it yourself or have one done for you? Also thinking of same engine for my 1st gen.

Cheers................Tim

Hi Tim,

I normally do Summer Nats at Billing, Rally of the giants at Knebworth, NSRA at Old warden, Corvette Nationals at Huntingdon plus this year I will do Damn Yankees at north Weald in August.

If I do put a stroker in the Maro I will be going the crate engine route, thats if I can hold on to my job!!!

Nick.
