OK for the 'cheap gas' Americans, but not really a lot of use if you can't afford the fuel to even leave your own town's 30 mph limits. Yeah, I know I'm boring but I've had big gas guzzlers and you just don't wanna drive 'em.
Cheers, Martin

How right you are Martin !
The novelty of really thirsty engines soon dies and the constant need to " fill 'er up " becomes a serious burden ...
Every guy I knew who had a sub 10 mpg car ended up selling it .
These days a well balanced small block in a lightish body with sensible gearing is way more fun because you can actually afford to drive it as opposed to parking it up as some sort of fetish that is rarely seen but constantly boasted about

I've always wondered what the cost of fuelling one of these high geared pro street cars is for a little drive out to a show... surely they're doing sub 10 mpg or maybe half that so with small race tanks they'd be lucky to get 50 miles...

Mostly "Trailer Queens" ,when you build a racer dedicated to drag racing you destroy it's potential as a street driver ,less so with circuit cars but they also tend to be too honed for the track and are at best "Weekend Warriors'' that spend little time on the street ...maybe the occasional show .
