This is an interesting story, and full of possible different realities.

Foxtons founder, who has an enviable classic car collection, puts his car into HR Owen, gets son to collect it, and it then bursts in flames on drive home..
Owner is trying to sue the garage for neglect.

Such a shame to see a Muira (one of my personal faves) worth nearly £1 million go up in flames,
Interesting fact that the salvage value is still £200, I'm guessing due to the value of the car, and it's log book, and the cost of rebuild even with virtually new and some handmade parts still probably amounting to less than than the repaired value.

From what I've read on another forum, the design of the engine layout, and DCOE carbs mean it's quite commmon to spit a bit of petrol out onto the hot exhaust, and what's most likely 'theory' is owners son, possibly not used to driving older carb feb cars, flooded it, or caused it to backfire, and then engine to catch light... :(

Regardless of all the theory,hype and bollocks about this unfortunate event, nobody here should be using their car without carrying a good fire extinguisher.
Until you have had the pleasure of trying to fight an established petrol fire in a motor vehicle, you will not understand the value of a good working fire extinguisher. It may just save your own valued vehicle or the life of another road user. Been there, done that- T shirt bollocks etc.
I know Halon/BCF is now illegal blah blah but it's the only chit that works so that's what I carry even though my racing plumbed in system is worthless AFFF due to racing rules. Funny old world innit? Do yourself a favour, get an extinguisher. HTH

I've had an extinguisher in the Camaro now for a while, after seeing a Fiat turbo catch fire on a tunnel run because of a loose dipstick, spat hot oil on the turbo... luckily no real damage, as a couple of guys had extinguishers and acted fast..
