Been thinking of getting a 7 stylee fun car for ages... I couldn't afford a Caterham, so likely a cheaper Westfield, Dax, MK Indy or something.

Anyone owned one before, as it would be nice to get an idea of experience in reality.
I've been in a couple going quick too, and it's like a road legal very fast go kart.
Certainly won't be an everyday car, and really need a garage to store it, which i don't have (yet), and as a bit of variety to the Camaro.

Just think they're so simple and love the idea of a super lighweight car after throwing the heavy V8 beastie around for years.

Have a look at my build up thread here:

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/9 ... tid=109801

Built it, drove it, put a silly engine in it, drove it some more, then sold it

Possibly the most fun you can have with 4 wheels

I had a caterham for a few years. realization of a dream. revolution wheels, twin webers.
I loved it. a drivers delight with such quick steering, gear change and everything.

I did a few trackdays where it was awesome. such fun in the corners and faster than things costs 5 times as much.
Parts were cheap.

In the end I sold it because I hated sitting in traffic with the weber complaining away and... I needed the money to buy my first big motorbike.

I miss it and would love another, but there is no way I will give my my motorcycles now.

but beware. I tried to re-capture some of the essence for track days with a (very) cheep substitute.

bit of disaster and all of 5 laps of brands before it holed a piston.

I would recommend you save up for a 'base' 7. Its the real thing - anything else is just a copy

Cheers guys... Sort of what I was hoping to hear.. mental bike like fun... Just need to get the right (finished) car for the right price.
Lots seem to be for sale, as the novelty seems to wear off.

Stu, join up on Locost Builders and keep an eye out on there. Some good cars on there.

This was mine... I miss it quite a bit. Was great going out for a blast on a summers day

2 litre Rotrex supercharged Duratec
300bhp/240lbft (590bhp/tonne)
0-60mph 2.7 sec
30-50mph 0.9 sec
50-70mph 0.9 sec

It was very silly, it was verging on being a bit too much power for a light car.

You can get a really nice example for about £5k, just check the build quality closely  If you need any help, let me know.

Your car looks CRARRAAAAAAAAAZZZZZY !!!!!!!!!!! 590 bhp tonne :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
That's nuts..

I really was hoping to get something cheapish, but don't want a project either. I can live with few rough edges, but it's gotta have some go, handle and stop ok...
I'll check out that Locost forum.
There's a guy I know selling a very nice tidy Dax Rush with pinto power, lovely stainless and carbon bits, live axle and no weather gear though, more money than I'd want spend too..

What sort of money are you thinking of spending - if you don't mind me asking. I'd be interested to hear what you can get ?
I would love to own another 7 type car again... but then I'd love to have another motorbike and I've always wanted a floaty boatly 70/80 yank, oh and a convertible, a speedboat, m/bike and side car, a hovercraft.........

I'd go hovercraft personally... perfect for that quick trip to Tesco for some bread....

I was trying to keep it cheap under £5k ish.. which i know isn't much, so expect to only get a live axled - crosslow or pinto powered car for that... IRS equipped, Zetec engined cars seem to go for 8K and up, or more for really nice ones...

In reality, I have nowhere undercover to store it, so I need to sort that first, as guessing it's a bit cruel to leave it outside under a cover.

Right.. I bought one !!!

It's a Formula 27 kit, factory built back in 1998, crossflow engine swapped a couple of years back for a much more pokey (170bhp) Vauxhall XE red top.. seems very solid and well put together, has a few minor niggles, mostly aesthetic, but enjoyed a couple of fun blats so far...
