I went on the ACE website then other day, expecting to see a big update on the legislation for historic cars, and was partly disappointed as there was nothing new really. I thought there was something happening in Feb/March? - maybe I got that wrong, which would shed more light on what is happening. I understand that all things involving Govt/Politics take time, but was also hoping on a decent update as well! Anyone heard anymore on what's going on? Thanks. |

Hi Mark, the legislation that you're looking for re 8 points still exists & as far as I'm aware will not be going away. Having read various threads on this with comments from ACE, there is legislation that is due to be ratified going "through the system". The reason that there are no major updates is because no-one knows exactly what is going to happen at this moment in time. Until full clarification is made, then no-one can comment. I'd be inclined to contact ACE direct with any queries you may have & see if they can shed some light on things for you for things as they apply to you. Take a look through some of the threads here http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/licens ... l-section/ as they may be of use to you hth EDIT I've just spoken to someone from ACE regarding your query & there are some things going on behind the scenes that are in the proposal stage. The legislation re "historic status" is under review at the moment & is due to go through Parliament in some shape or form within the next 24 months, though no definitive decision has been made yet as to what form it will take. It could be that if the proposals go through, the 8 point system could be abolished for cars already built & on the road & a line drawn under it, so that any cars with modifications up to that point gain amnesty. Any car being modified after this time would have to go for a BIVA test. However, this possibly could or would be superseded by the new historic legislation that is being proposed, that ALL historic vehicles must remain standard without any modifications whatsoever. At this stage it is unknown how far reaching these proposals will go or how they will affect us. Obviously this is supposition & until such times that a definitive answer is given, we are stuck with the 8 point system as it currently stands cheers..Nige |
