Nige & Martin, Nothing magic - on my budget ! The engine hasn't been taken apart since 2001. It was amazingly clean on strip-down (internally ... externally it looked horrible !). New cam and lifters, new rings, pistons OK (9.7:1 CR); rods & crank OK (phew). Using the same carb. Installing a standard bell-housing which is quite a bit lighter than the AA/FD dragster burstproof that we took off. The main thing has been awful discoveries when Martin Saville took the front of the car off ... the transverse stiffening panel that also mounts the radiator was completely rusted through on one side ... and as it carries some of the front suspension torsional stresses, (it should be securely bolted in), that had to be replaced. Body mounts were in shreds, v. old , now replaced. The gearbox has been treated to new seals and bearings ... and a few other bits & pieces, like repairing the body damage I did in the pit-to-paddock exit tunnel at Brands. Generally, I am hoping for a bit more torque after having everything screwed together properly and possibly a stiffer front end. I could do with a drag-chute, though, for the end of the Dunlop Bridge straight at Donington ! Nick |
