future bargain? I'm sure this happened to 1st gens, 2nd gens, mustangs etc at some point in their life span. Hell, when i was at the Petersen auto museum in L.A the tour guide was telling us how at one point in petrols life cycle there were promotions on at fuel stations for free gasoline if you bought something from the shop, due to business being so slow as there were hardly any cars around, so they needed to get customers in somehow. Imagine if that happened today. So in other words, one day we'll look back at the original post and say, can you remember when 4th gens were going down in value!

As posted already. . They're at that awkward 10 - 20 year old cycle in they're age.....
great for buyers but that also means that they'll be less good condition well loved ones in a few years time as new owners won't spend the money to maintain them well.
Same thing happened with 3rd gens about 10 years ago, couldn't give em away.... market value will go up for the better 4th gens, but not for a while :thumbdown:

Just saw this thread.

Recently bought a 4th gen. My personal opinion is;

They don`t look as good as any other generation Camaro (although I love the whole `catfish` look).
3 times I`ve been told it looks like a Ford Probe. Back possiibly, front no way.

3rd Gens look like old school muscle cars so will be visually and financially more attractive to new buyers.

There`s a lot of V6 autos for sale from Japan which undermine the whole big powerful yank thing. These are cheaper and you can have, to the uninformed the `same car` for £2k. Doesn`t make them a bad car but like the Mustang version people wanting into the yank motor market on a budget will stop here.

C4 Corvettes seem to sell at more money and people looking for a fun first yank are more likely to be swayed by the name. Likewise, the Mustang badge means a lot to people. "Whats a Camero anyway?"

On the plus side;

98-02 4th gen LS1s are serious bang for your buck. Faster than any equivalent Mustangs I`ve driven bar ones with blowers. I . That includes 05 on S197 GTs.

There was a recent 2002 manual SS that sold for £10k or thereabouts ( advertised for less than 2 days on ebay this month). Good ones don`t hang about.

Manual 6 speeds are surprisingly good on fuel for what they are.

Interesting observation but of the few Camaro owners I`ve met they seem to be quirky enthusiast types that have a knowledge of American cars (thats why they have them) and the cars aren`t portrayed in the same way and as such could be less appealing........"It`s only a bit of bird $hit"........The wiping their hands with rags type isn`t a bad owner. Means they see to things needing seeing to. The adverts for their cars I viewed weren`t the glossy photoshopped magazine featured type that mustang owners would have done, a lot of which are Audi or BMW converts. Kidolgy I know but something I noticed when looking for a Mustang a few years back a lot of sellers hadn`t a clue what they were selling. Well, hoovered out though. :think:

That's an interesting thought. I think the Mustang owners, like Corvette owners, are definately more likely to be the polish and look it type, rather than drive the ar$e off (I hope) Camaro owners seem to be.. (Pontiac owners fall somewhere in the middle :twisted: )

Funnily enough I saw a Firebird for sale recently that was shiny and bling. Thing is, the whole car was an airbrushed tribute to Status Quo. The whole car. Guitars and lyrics and stuff. Lovely job and all but kinda limits interest and ultimately kills a sale. If it had of been just shiny red it probably would have sold.

Good lord, saw that one on ebay when looking for a firebird for a mate.

Values are certainly dropping but I reckon the v8s will slow and then plateau, perhaps climbing back up again in a few years.

Fella at Billing last Sunday wanted £5500 for his '95 LT1 T/A, with broken rear light, scratches and Camaro wheels. Despite saying that Ive had a Camaro and several yanks over the years, this chap (complete with unofficial Corvette jacket and tiedied jeans) proceeded to tell me that Camaros were "unfinished" fecal matter and that his would scare the fecal matter out of me if he took me for a drive.

Right. Awful sales pitch and fabulous value delusion. The uninitiated or uniformed public may pay these prices but in this day and age bargains can be had if you avoid the prats...
