Dear All
Please find below a copy of my complaint to the BBC!:

YOUR COMPLAINT:
20 minutes given to allegations by witness
Full Complaint: "I felt that it was inappropriate to begin the Main 1 O'Clock Radio 4 news with 20 minutes of accusatory statements by one of the women who allegedly was treated inappropriately (sexually) by the LibDem Peer Lord Renard. Lord Renard has denied the allegations The LibDems say they will have a full investigation But the point is that the Radio 4 news at 1 is not the place to air the grievances of a particular woman for 20 minutes into alleged sexual wrongdoing by a third party (who denies it). There are thousands dying in Syria, a sterling crisis, serious trouble in Europe and yet we have to listen to 20 minutes of allegations before coming to REAL news. Come on BBC- making up for the lack of reporting of the Saville crimes by giving valuable airtime to this sort of thing on the main News is not balanced.! Put it in a newsnight programme or some investigative report but please NOT the News! And Not the first (ie most important) story in the News!"

Have to agree with TC , 20 mins. is unbalanced, but we live in the UK where sexual scandal draws a huge audience. Have to plead guilty to a little smirking myself on hearing some of it  .
Other countries are just as bad as us, Italy has Berlusconi and his public flirtations with young girls and even in the US who can forget Slick Willie being caught with his pants down in the Oval Office :o . Must admit cigars have taken on a whole new image for me after that escapade  .

+1 on the above, the UK seems obsessed with the trivial side of life especially if 'fame' or sex (alleged or otherwise) are involved. Real news is virtually non-existent so no small wonder they try to fill in the (vast) areas in between with any old tripe they can.
Oh, and I must admit that when I saw this thread's title, I thought it was a complaint about MkIV Chevrolets.......
Cheers, Martin

I've been away so much from the UK over Xmas, Jan & Feb, and realised on my return how depressing watching the news is. I used to be quite interested in current affairs, bit of politics etc... but I've worked out life goes on, and organisations like the BBC are so biased one way or the other, as are most news and media agencies you never get the real info, it's all here-say, allegations and not the actual proven facts, so I sort of gave up recently. I agree that investigation programs should be used for in depth allegatory based programming, not the news, but it's all twisted truth and we'll never know the real story.
Tough balance between having a keen interest in the world outside your door and burying your head in the sand for your own sanity.

Thanks for contacting us about ‘The World At One’
We understand you were unhappy with the time given to the story relating to Lord Rennard as you feel other stories were more worthy of coverage.
The time given to each issue or report in the news is frequently a very difficult decision for our editors. Our audiences don't look at events in the same way and there's no one universal news agenda that applies to all. The time given has to be selective and no matter how carefully such decisions are made, news editors are always aware that some people may disagree with them.
Essentially this is a judgement call rather than an exact science but BBC News does appreciate the feedback when listeners feel we may have neglected a story.
I understand the strength of your comments and I'd like to assure you that I’ve registered your complaint on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that’s made available to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.
The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.
Kind Regards
Kevin Freeburn
