Ok, so when cruising at high speed (60mph+) there is a high pitched squeal which is there at constant speed, louder on overrun and goes away on acceleration. Once its started it stays there until you slow right down to 20mph or so and then will be intermittent after that.

Its not overly loud, but enough to be embarrassing. It doesnt sound like diff or anything like that as the pitch is almost constant irrespective of the engine speed.

Box is a recon (allegedy) TH350.

It does it before the engine is up to temp and after as well....

Any ideas?

Thanks, I think it might be the water pump bearings. Looks like the source of my water leak is the drain hole in the bottom of the water pump casting. I have an ali one to put on there, so will get it changed at the weekend and see if thats fixed it.

Still got this intermittently. Not the waterpump or alternator as they are both new. Looking more like a transmission noise...

Though I am thinking it might be a vac leak somewhere as its only there when crusing (very quiet) and on overrun (louder) so have just changed all the vac lines to the transmission :)

Almost got rid of it I think. Changed the flexi vac lines down to the modulator on the gearbox and it seems a bit better. Will get a length of hose and replace the whole length I think just to see if that makes any difference. The fitting on the modulator is a bit odd though.
