Post subject: | Hello everyone |
Hi, Thinking about buying a Gen 3 Camaro, so it seemed like the logical thing to do was join up! I am currently running a Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo, so used to the high fuel consumption. But the Mitsy has to go to get the next machine... I only have a max of £4k to spend, so seems I am limited to the Gen 3, which is no problem as I quite like those. Would be after a V8, nothing else will do. Not worried if its a 5.0 or 5.7 to be honest, although I would quite like the 5.7... Manual gearbox options? What are the auto's like? Never have had an auto car and I am not sure I would like it or not. I had a quick look around at insurance, Footman James wouldnt even give me a quote as I am under 30.... Flux quoted me ~£300 online, but I would have to phone to run through that. 26, 3 yrs NCB, 1 accident last year (company car). Anyone of similar age on here? I run a bike (1200 sportster) most of the time to commute on, so the cars going on a ltd mileage policy. Anyway, any advice gratefully received! Thanks, David |

Welcome, 3rd gens are a lot of fun, autos are the default, so they're good, reliable and plentiful should you need rebuild/replcaement. I have a 3rd Gen 5.0 700R4 Trans Am (same car, nearly!), great fun! Parts are cheap, car isn't too big, handles OK for a Yank! Try Graham Sykes for insurance. Steven |

Hello and welcome.. I doubt very much any Camaro would cost more to insure than a Mitsi GTO TT.. Lovely cars, I had two VR4 Legnums, great quick cars, just lacked the looks of the GTO.. £4k will get you a 4th gen Camaro too if you wanted, but you'll get a very clean 3rd gen for that money.. |

Thanks guys That's one reason for changing it, although the insurance isn't that bad on a classic policy (looks like my renewal will be about £500, but over 30's seem to pay much less). But its due for renewal at the end of August, so now is the best time to change. This is the Mitsy thats got to go: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0749401494 Never had an american car, but a friends uncle had a 2nd gen Camaro ('78 I think) when I was a teen and after that I always wanted one. Back then they were silly cheap to pick up too, but they seem to have increased in value significantly! If I can spend less than £4k and pick up one needing very minor work then I would be very happy, as I like a project! Needs to be roadworthy with T&T though |
