After 2 years of being on the road I felt it time to give the Camaro a bit of a cut back & polish. Here it is after flatting out some of the marks & road rash it'd acquired.



All polished up with a nice shine again.

Well, I've started on the Trans-Am-Aro conversion. This has been inspired by "The Bandit" Trans am of 1977. Obviously, the 4th gen Camaro looks more like it than the 4th gen Trans Am so i set about doing a bit of converting.

Got all the decals on and waiting to get a few mil shaved off the caliper carriers so i can get the snowflake alloys on. I have the rear centre panel that now says PONTIAC instead of CAMARO at the bodyshop being painted. The thing i most need now is a spare 4th gen nose cone to hack the hell out of and make the headlight openings wider (see my other post - need a nose cone lol). I think i'll feel happier with the whole project when i get this as this is the most distinguishing feature of the Camaro to me.

Anyway, i wasn't going to post up any pics until i had the car to a point where i was happy with it but i thought i may as well post up pics of her progress so far

That's an interesting project... I guess you're right about the 4th gen Camaro resembling the 77' Trans Am more than the Pontiac does.. I guess it's around the lights that's important..

What snowflake wheels are you fitting, the original 15" ones, or Year One 17" repros.. ?

done nothing to mine need to get 2 front tyres and the gearbox has dropped its oil on the drive in protest

The original 77 ones. I'd have liked the year one wheels but they are pricey and a Little hard to get in th uk.

How are you going to overcome the 2" difference in offset ? The 2nd wheels will poke out of the arches on a 4th gen....

Ive had them on the car and the wheels sit ok in the tops of the arches and i quite like that stance. Gives it a wider, meaner look. The problem i'm having is the Caliper clearance. The wheels went on but when i put the car in reverse there was a grinding coming from the front. The caliper carriers were scraping along the inside of the wheel where it slightly lips up. My choices are to get a spacer which will move the lip out the way but also make the wheels protrude further than the top of the arch OR get a fraction shaved of the top and bottom of the caliper carriers (no more than 5 MM will be needed and probably 2mm would suffice) so i think that's the route i'm going to go down.

Today... I have mostly been fixing my broken seat.

After getting into the car last week, I heard a crack and I was a little more reclined than I expected.. The seat back would not return back into position, so 4 bolts later out she came for some repairs.

I discovered the end of the seat rail flat pad that mounts onto the floor had broken again (a common thing, I think this is the 3rd of the 4 that's gone and been fixed now) so this needed sorting, and also the seat itself had a bit of flex in the base near the redliner adjuster.

Bit of investigation and gentle digging and cut through the material as I needed to re-weld the bottom frame of the actual seat where it had cracked and the original welds failed. Pic shows my not very good welding repair with my gasless MIG..
All works and back in the car now though.. Though I think I may have badly burnt the foam and fabric on the bottom of the seat.
