Car Details:3rd Gen 1991 Camaro, 3.1 V6, manual transmission. Been in the country since 2001 and really needs some TLC but dont have the funds to be able to get her back to looking like her glory days.
Location:sandy, bedfordshire
Just wanted to ask if anyone knows around how much it would cost to get a full respray on my 3rd Gen. It has quite a few dents and the paint has faded and is peeling off, so i would want full bodywork on it to straighten it out also. If anyone knows how much it would cost can you let me know so i can start getting some money together to get it done

To be perfectly honest it's like asking how long your piece of string is. Do you want it bare metaled, or just a blow, over or something in between. The cost will come down to the amount of labour involved for the result that you're after. Before commiting to any bodyshop to have the work done, ask to see some proof of the cars that they've done & if possible speak to the cars owners or go to a bodyshop on recommendation.

When I had my bodyshop we specialised in doing "out of the ordinary" stuff & had an 18 month waiting list for work to come in. We photgraphed every aspect of work being carried out so that the cusrtomer had a record of what was being done. NEVER, EVER pay for work up front PERIOD!! I used to invoice on a work done basis. Always ask for a quotation in writing (not an estimate where the price can change) listing EVERYTHING that will be done with a firm price. If any additional work is found whilst the car is being repaired, notify that bodyshop that you want to see pictures or proof of said work & a cost for doing it, PRIOR to them doing that work. Always ask for the time scale that the work will be completed in & have that in writing on the quotation. If, heaven forbid things ever went tits up you will have covered you back legally by doing this. Courts aren't interested in verbal quoations or estimates when it comes to trying to resolve issues..

Best of luck in finding someone to do this. Sorry if the above sounds like doom & gloom, but you wouldn't believe the number of people that brought their cars into us to have work completed, where they had been messed around by other bodyshops. Escalating costs without authorisation & ever increasing completion dates being the main problem that ended up with them removing their cars & bringing them in to us to be finished.

Thanks very much Nige. That is a massive help. I shall go ahve a look around at what bodyshops i have around my area and do some research on them. Its good having you guys around to help :D

Hi just read your artical about respray i own a body shop and having a full respray done is a costly experiance to have it done right there are plenty of places that will take your money and do a bad job and give you no after care so be carefull who you use and make sure you can see some of their work or work in progress we have done britcams camaro and others like it you can see some of our work on our web site www.carrs-bodies .co.uk if you need a bit of help i will try and advise you the best i can,we can do the work for you and we offer stage payment to help customers out we have been going for 35 years so we must be doing something right.

Im probably too busy to take it in myself booked up for about a year on resprays and custom work, We only do high quality work and have built many show winners in the american car UK and US scene.
