You are probably lucky to have that AK. My Brother-in-law in Texas says that since Oh-Bummer tried to ban them, assault rifles and ammo for them sell out as soon as they hit the stores.
Mind you that might be because Texans are preparing for the eventuality of leaving the union.
I have 2 AK's, one Yugo underfolder, like the photo and another is a parts kit, which I will put together one day. I have numerous handguns, shotguns and rifles including an a old Lee Enfield .303, which is still the fastest bolt action in the world.
The local gun stores and even Walmart now have plenty of ammo, except .22's, but I have a few thousand rounds of those still in my store room.
All I need now is the temperature to drop so I can go out shooting.
As for banning them, well the New Mexico constitution is very clear:
Sec. 6. [Right to bear arms.]
No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying
of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.
Our city council hates this as every time they try and restrict guns we remind them they can't
