I think most of those practical tests, like steering & suspension, loose battery, dodgy wiring, etc are very fair, and most likely checked already by a half decent tester...

Issues I've seen come up in other forums regarding MOT changes are the airbag SRS warning lights and electric seats, as in many mid 90's cars have issues with things like this, and good see many good cars scrapped, as no-ones gonna get these things fixed on a M reg Lexus/BMW/Volvo worth £700 for example, that's otherwise in good condition..
Bang on Stu ! but there,s no conspiracy!!! ha ha Rockinfox

It's a bit of a mixed bag.
Of course, it couldn't be engineered to stop people from keeping 10+ yr old cars on the road, could it? To encourage us all into anonymous jelly mould euro boxes?
Oh How could you imply there,s such skullduggry amongst the newly born Political class!Whose main qualification todate, appears to be the ability to avoid ever having a job in the real world like the LUCKY one,s amongst us!They then spend all their time and OUR resources dreaming up more crap, redtape n hurdles to make our live,s harder!Oh God bless the state for trying to wrap us all in cotton wool n beaurocracy. For our own good of course! May I repeat to be laughed with again. There,s no conspiracy!! Rockinfox (grumpy)!

This is just all so contradictory - we have 1 law stating that you must have your car as it came from the factory, even if you want to make it more safe i.e better brakes aren't allowed, then this thing tells you have to do something like add a cat which didn't come on the car from the factory. Dear government, f*k off and deal with more important things like the fact that we're still 3 years into a recession. Rant partially over.
WELL DO TELL!! please feel free to rant as it gives me a break from doin so!(temporarily)! Regards Rockinfox

The new 2012 MOT manual is now available for download. The new bits have a vertical bar next to them. Doesn't appear to be anything too drastic in there...

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/M ... Manual.pdf

The cat tests only apply to cars built after 1992, so all the older Camaros *should* be OK

Thanks for supplying :)

Let's hope they are not gradually introducing things. Good to know about the cats, will be building the exhaust soon so this gives some confidence with that :)
