Charging for membership is a bad idea, I certainly wouldn't pay £50! Although donating a few quid every year would seem acceptable, to be frank you need traffic and lots of it, more traffic means a busier forum and hence sponsors would be more likely to advertise.
If you want traffic you need to promote which would take either lots time or money. Perhaps a section on Chevy power which could cover anything with a Chevy engine (excluding rebadged daewoos) think monaros etc. There are enough Chevy engines in the country to make this a good busy resource for people but smebody has to root then all out and entice them over here which once again means a lot of time and effort. We need some tech guys to deal with power as I think most folk buy a v8 for that very reason. I don't see how putting a few hours a week here and there is going to see this change into a profitable or self supporting enterprise overnight. It needs a decent for sale section whic could be done by messaging eBay sellers to entice them, rather than charging them to advertise here let them do it for free then make the money from advertisers when the traffic is sufficient. All the fast cars run Chevy engines anyway so half the work is done, the fastest Ferrari in the world didn't run an over engineered overpriced Italian lump....... And the "balance of performance" done before all the FIA GT races is only to cripple the corvettes and Moslers so they the Italian and German cars doesn't get handed it's arse every time and the owners of those Marques feel justified with the stupid money they shelled out for their cars, I have photos of the restrictors on the corvettes i took on a press day and you couldnt get your little finger through them, and they made the vettes add ballast just to add insult to injury and still got their arses beaten, a few likeminded folk chatting about wheel rims and interiors isn't going to set the Internet on fire or get an income no matter how pretty the rims are. Or getting a few folk to donate a few quid would keep it running as is if enough People are willing? Pop over to airgunforum.co.uk which I have been a member of for a few years and you can see they have a donation system going which far exceeds the target every month as its busy and full of likeminded people so it is possible to be self sufficient and in profit without advertising or sponsors, you just need enthusiasm and time

Sad news, but as the saying goes - There is no such thing as a free lunch ...
Firstly thanks to Tim Boles for funding the site to this point .
It would seem to be a shame to let the site die, so it looks like we have reached a moment of truth, and those of us who value this place should step up to the plate and make some contribution...
Hopefully if we can keep the donation low enough we will not deter people, at worst we will just loose a few freeloaders.
Ray seems to be the man who will be able to judge what we need to donate to keep things on an even keel ( any thoughts Ray ? )
As far as other changes go it will be up to the members, but in a way it might be an opportunity to try to steer things in a more active club direction, because while forums are good the fact remains that for our cars the sites that offer the most are the big US sites .
While it is good to see pics of big shows, race meets and club events in the States what we really lack is info on Cars/Parts local suppliers, local events in the UK . I would rather go to a local meet in my car and see some other cars and their owners than surf the net looking at stuff I can't visit ...
I think we need to keep the donation low to start as we could loose support and if only a few are willing to pay more things will not end well...just my hunch but maybe someone can throw out a figure and get things going ?

So the good news is we're back online and i just hope that everyone has received an email about the new website address (seems a little quiet but it does get like that from time to time).

Based in the suggestions made by firebird and twisted, i have moved the events section to the top of the page to help encourage people to add info and also get involved in events, as the connected part of the club is definitely something that we can do with.

I will also add a section about Chevy Power as suggested. There is a section for Tech info that has engine stuff there, but i feel this may be too buried, so i will find somewhere more fitting to add this.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome!

How to post pics: When writing a message, scroll down and use the "attach file" option. Where possible, a photo sharing service can be used such as Flickr, Imgur etc. The image location (usually ending in .jpg) can be copy and pasted between the ][ brackets that appear when you click the 'Img' button (you can find this button at the top of the message box).

How to post youtube vids: Click on the 'youtubeHD' button at the top of the message box and in the middle of the ][ brackets that just appeared, copy and paste everything from the youtube web address that appears after the = sign i.e if this is the url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cNqaPSHv0 just copy "K2cNqaPSHv0").
