I do know that a lot of 4.9 'birds have had their engines dumped for 400ci carbs!

I wouldn't imagine a 4.9 turbo engine would be worth much to anyone without the matching car. I would budget for a turbo overhaul/recon which can be around £400-500. I wouldn't imagine many people would swap a 4.9 lump before a 5.7 or 6.6 so if you want it, you can use this to haggle with him.

strangely, even though many 2nd Gen 'brids ditch their Turbo, the ones that still have the original engine are now becoming a rare find, so the Turbo is probably only of value to someone with the right car and a failed engine/turbo!!!!!! My friend had a turbo model but it had a 6.6 in it, and he was pleased that the previous owner had done it, he was prepared to pay more for a 1980 with a 6.6, that a 4.9 even though it wasn't no# matching etc.

I guess its like most early version of these things, like the Crossfire being an early TPI/TBI type engine, they had a go, it didn't go so well, so they either refine it or dump it! Having said that, my Ceasefire, sorry, Crossfire is problem free so far in the T/A.
